Bringing an international act to a wedding, a corporate event or a hotel in Chile is very doable, but it needs a bit more planning than hiring locally. Most of the problems we see come from starting too late with paperwork and logistics, not from the artists themselves.
When it makes sense to bring an artist from abroad
International acts make sense when you need a specific style, language or level that is hard to find locally, when the artist is the main attraction of the event, or when the audience is international. For ambient music and support sets, verified local musicians are often the smarter choice.
Work authorisation in Chile
In general, foreigners in Chile on a temporary stay (Permanencia Transitoria) cannot carry out paid work without permission. The Servicio Nacional de Migraciones (SERMIG) allows authorisation for specific and occasional activities, which includes entertainers. According to SERMIG, the request is made through its online portal, requires a notarised contract specifying dates and functions, and must be filed at least one business day before the paid activity starts. Some nationalities also need a visa to enter Chile.
Requirements change, so always confirm the current rules with SERMIG or with the agency managing the booking.
Contracts and payments
The contract should state the performance dates, functions, fee, currency, payment schedule, what the organiser provides (flights, hotel, transport, meals, backline), cancellation terms and the clause required for the work authorisation. Agree early on invoicing and taxes, especially when paying artists based abroad.
Logistics and technical needs
- Flights with enough margin before the event (ideally arrival one day before)
- Accommodation close to the venue and local transport
- Backline and sound according to the artist's technical rider
- Rehearsal or sound-check time with local musicians if the line-up is mixed
- A local contact person available on the day
A smart format: international headliner + local band
A cost-effective way to bring international level to an event in Chile is to fly in one headline artist and combine them with verified local musicians. It reduces travel costs and paperwork while keeping the "wow" moment.
